About the Big Island

CLIMATE
September on the Big Island is warm and tropical, with daytime highs in the low-to-mid 80s°F (28–30°C) and cooler evenings in the 70s°F (21–24°C). It’s still technically hurricane season, but storms are rare. Expect sunshine with occasional short showers. Pack light, breathable clothes and a swimsuit.

GRATUITY ETIQUETTE
Tipping in Hawai‘i follows U.S. standards. A tip of 18–20% is typical at restaurants, and smaller tips are appreciated for housekeeping, valet, and other resort services.

GETTING AROUND
Kona Village is remote, so if you plan to explore off-property, we recommend renting a car or coordinating transportation in advance. Rideshare options (Uber/Lyft) exist but can be limited. The resort concierge can assist with booking cars or private transport if needed.

CULTURAL NOTE
Hawai‘i has a deep cultural history. If you explore beyond the resort, be mindful of sacred sites and local customs. A simple “aloha” and respectful attitude go a long way. Leave no trace, and enjoy the island with care.

Booking your travel

  • For U.S. domestic flights, please plan on arriving Sunday, September 21 and returning Wednesday, September 24.

    For International flights, you may choose to arrive a day early on Saturday, September 20 with a departure of Thursday, September 25.

    Semgrep will cover the costs mentioned above.

    If you would like to extend your stay beyond those dates, we can offer a discounted group rate for 1-2 days before and after our program, subject to availability. Please reach out to Kathy Liu for details.

  • Fly in and out of Kona International Airport (KOA)

    We will follow the same flight booking process as the 2024 company offsite.

    • Domestic flights: please keep each ticket under $500.

    • International flights: please keep tickets under $1200.

    If the costs exceeds this amount, please reach out to Kathy Liu and we can work together to get the flight you need.

  • Between your home to your hotel, we recommend using your car share transportation service of your choice and using Expensify/Ramp to reimburse.

    Your transportation between the Cabo airport and the resort will be arranged and cost will be covered. We will collect your arrival and departure information to make these arrangements.
